POC POLE PRESENTS:
DECONSTRUCT with Fatimah the Siren
Join the iconic and legendary Fatima the Siren for a specially designed POC pole workshop.
This is not a pole initiation for complete beginners. During POC Pole, we come together as a community of racialised minds & bodies that enjoy pole dance. POC Pole aims to be a physical, emotional & political space for those affected by racism. It is a space in chosen mixity.
What happens when we dismantle conventional notions of “fluidity” and “sensuality” and rebuild them on our own terms?
In this workshop, we dive deep into the foundations of movement to freak, break, and reimagine what flow can mean for us. Designed as a playground for self-determination and collective dreaming, together we will look to redefine sensuality through our own lived experiences and diasporic heritage.
Examples of what we will explore:
* Slink as Sleaze: Unpacking what music and movement we view as “sensual”.
* Technical Deconstruction: Rethinking the mechanics of lines, walks, and waves. What if a line breaks at the joints? What if fluidity isn't continuous, but fragmented?
* Integrating Cultural References: Weaving our own roots, gestures, and diasporic references into our pole movement
What to bring/wear: Heels optional, layers and/or kneepads encouraged
